The Ania was inspired by the success of the Apheta and Aphelion MC models. Ania uses the same complex hand wound micro coil found in the rest of the range, and is housed in a unique PPS highly rigid body. This body is an exceptionally accurate design that includes Rega’s three point fixing to optimise connection to the tonearm headshell and automatically sets overhang when fitted to a Rega tonearm. The Ania features a super high-powered, neodymium magnet and a coil meticulously hand wound on to an iron micro cross. This miniature assembly allows greater freedom to track the vinyl groove ensuring even more detail is extracted from the vinyl.

Rega is coming soon to Soundline

To say that the P6/Ania sets a new standard for Rega ’tables at this price point is not damning with faint praise; it’s instead high praise for what Rega has accomplished, and continues to, as its Naiad technology keeps expanding throughout the company’s formidable lineup.

Welcome to the world of moving coils

Rega’s Moving Coil cartridge design is unique in its approach to achieving an ultra-low mass generator which is undamped (no tie wire) using a unique rhomboid pivot for the cantilever powered by a purpose designed, exclusive to Rega, Neodymium magnet system. This type of design requires a zero-tolerance engineered cartridge body which is Rega’s area of expertise and with the Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2 products these bodies are machined from one piece of the highest quality aluminium. This is a difficult and expensive process requiring all of Rega’s years of experience to achieve. In particular, the “zero” tolerancing of the body is required in the alignment and dimension of the pivot pad mounting hole and the magnet mechanism mounting hole relationship.

Low-mass moving coil

To create a high-performance Moving Coil cartridge at half the cost of the Apheta 3, Rega turned to a cost-effective yet high-grade material: Polyphenylene Sulphide (PPS-Fortron), a 40% glass-filled polymer. Its hardness and dimensional stability made it ideal for the Ania cartridge body, though moulding such a complex shape posed a major engineering challenge.

Using rapid SLA prototyping, Rega validated the design in months, then developed the most intricate high-pressure injection mould in its history. The tool, crafted over a year by a master toolmaker using Swiss EDM CNC machines, features eight interlocking parts—four moving in perfect harmony—to form the cartridge’s precise shape.

The result: a PPS body with stainless steel inserts, a rhomboid pivot, and a lightweight, elliptical diamond stylus with a low-mass moving coil generator—delivering class-leading performance, clarity, and musicality at an unmatched price.

The Rega Planar 6/Ania’s masterful handle on rhythm and subtle detail is better than before, with refinement adding to the deck’s customarily musical and insightful performance. We’re impressed with Rega’s new level of performance. The Planar 6’s balanced, mature presentation is something you’ll appreciate the more you listen to it. So get listening.

The Rega Ania and Fono MC are a pretty sweet package, you need a decent turntable and arm to make the most of them, an RP6 at least, but given that, the result is pretty damn close to the music power available with much pricier combos. But be careful, it could give you a chronic case of vinyl addiction.
