Aphelion 2 is the 4th generation of Rega's unique handmade moving coil cartridges. Taking the technology developed from the original Aphelion and the latest Apheta 3 to the next level, Rega engineers have now fine-tuned every aspect of the original designs.

Rega is coming soon to Soundline

This cartridge is a revelation, there’s no other word for it … If you want to know exactly what your records sound like it is very highly recommended.

The Ultimate in Micro Engineering and Design

The Aphelion 2 is the ultimate in micro engineering and design. Rega's unique hand-wound micro cross and coil assembly is built directly onto a Boron rod cantilever. The advanced ‘fine line’ profile nude diamond is then mounted through 90 degrees which offers extreme levels of stiffness and control over the stylus. This design requires a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to engineering to achieve the highest level of performance from a Rega cartridge to date. Designed to complement the reference range of Rega turntables including the Naiad.

Clarity & control

Rega’s moving coil cartridge design is unlike any other. By eliminating the tie wire and using an undamped, ultra-low mass generator driven by a unique rhomboid pivot and a custom Neodymium magnet system, Rega has created a cartridge free from the high-frequency resonance common in traditional MC designs.

To support this, the Aphelion 2 features a zero-tolerance, one-piece aluminium body—meticulously machined to maintain precise alignment between the pivot and magnet assemblies. This level of engineering is both complex and costly, but essential to performance.

Conventional MC cartridges rely on steel tie wires and foam damping to tame resonance, but these elements degrade over time and compromise sound quality. Rega’s design avoids these pitfalls entirely. With no tie wire or foam damper, the Aphelion 2 delivers the clarity, extended high frequencies, and tight, controlled bass that discerning listeners demand.

Reviews

This cartridge is a revelation, there’s no other word for it. In combination with the Rega P10 it resolves detail that you hadn’t imagined was in the groove, it cuts through the myth of vinyl warmth to reveal that this format is as neutral and capable of high resolution as anything, especially any format that offers a wide variety of material to suit all tastes. If you want to know exactly what your records sound like it is very highly recommended.

This is no sonic wimp of a cartridge, yet it is well controlled in its behaviour. There is no warmth; it is brutally honest about what is in the groove: technically correct. Forget about the easy tone of yesteryear.
