To my ears, the Sonus faber Sonetto V G2 is an enjoyable, well-sorted speaker capable of producing full-range room-filling sound and bringing forward subtle details, with all the types of music I sent them.

Acoustics

The lute shape of the speakers, an iconic design feature of Sonus faber, not only adds a touch of elegance but also optimises sound dispersion for an immersive listening experience.

The high-quality wood cabinet has been further enhanced with a new concrete base, providingsuperior stability and better vibration management for impeccable sound performance.

The woofer features a paper pulp sandwich cone for precise and dynamic bass response, paired with an organic basket for optimal air flow. Motors include aluminum demodulation rings to improve linearity.

Camellia Mid-Range Design

The Sonetto G2 introduces a revolutionary Camellia mid-range driver, which has moved away from the traditional rounded membrane to a new design featuring five cuts on its perimeter. This change is not only aesthetic but also functional, aiming to improve sound clarity and detail. This new mid-range design, first showcased in the Suprema model, is now being standardised across the new Sonetto floorstanding range.

Material Innovations - Cork Enclosures

In a pioneering move for the industry, Sonus faber has implemented cork in the loading of the mid-range speakers. Initially introduced in the Suprema, this approach utilizes cork's natural acoustic properties to enhance sound quality by optimizing the loading conditions for the mid-range drivers. This material choice also reflects a commitment to sustainability, reducing the use of damping materials inside the speaker enclosures. The use of cork is expanded throughout the new Sonetto range, influencing both acoustic performance and environmental impact.

Design highlights

The Sonetto G2 series features a host of classic Sonus faber design highlights, including:

The inclusion of a concrete base, which not only enhances stability and minimizes vibrations but also adds a modern and industrial aesthetic element to the speakers, complementing the classic wood and leather finishes. Concrete bases came with rubber feet, with optional spikes.

The round binding post cover, adorned with the Sonus faber logo, serves both a functional and decorative purpose. Designed specifically for bi-wiring binding posts, it ensures the integrity of connections while adding a touch of refinement to the rear panel of the speakers.

The wood grain in the new Sonetto G2 collection is meticulously crafted to achieve a higher level of detail and refinement. Each speaker's wood finish is expertly executed to highlight the unique character and texture of the wood, resulting in a truly exquisite visual presentation.

Reviews

To my ears, the Sonus faber Sonetto V G2 is an enjoyable, well-sorted speaker capable of producing full-range room-filling sound and bringing forward subtle details, with all the types of music I sent them. They don't sound bright or glaring. Their low end is ample and satisfying. They rock, swing, and can reproduce a full orchestra.

The Sonetto V is a product of the V3.0 era and exhibits the brand’s newest sound: tremendous punch in the bass, refined highs, and incisive presentation across the audioband. But what I liked most was how easily the Sonetto Vs could play different types of music without becoming tiresome. Cycling through these three system setups wasn’t accomplished in days or even a few weeks—it was done over months, and I never once tired of the Sonettos’ sound.

Sonus faber's new Sonetto range ups the style ante over the previous generation, making the V G2 - with its eye-catching Camelia midrange driver - one of the most striking floorstanders around. The performance is similarly impactful, as musical highs and excellent soundstaging are joined by tight, punchy bass to deliver unfatiguing sonics with plenty of all-round appeal. Anyone that gets the chance should grab an audition!
